As we remember Pearl Harbor Day (a day that will ive in infamy); as firefighters, let's not forget December 7, 1946. The day of the worst hotel fire in history... when 119 people lost their lives in the Winecoff Hotel Fire in Atlanta. Tragic day for many in Georgia and Hawaii. #historymoldsusforthefuture See more

We have received another complaint involving traffic on Boggs Mountain Road prior to the school gates being opened at 2:30pm. This complaint involved a near h...ead on collision. Please do not park on the side of road, waiting for the school gates to open. We have given mutilipe warnings which appears not to be working. This leaves us no other alternative but to start issuing citations in hope to avoid any accidents and or injuries. Please be safe and patient. Rabun County Schools
Ready or not, Thanksgiving is headed our way! Here are some tips to help you cook safely on Thanksgiving as well as every day of the year. Keep an eye on what you fry. Most cooking fires start when someone is frying food. Watch what you are cooking. Fires start when the heat is too high. If you see any smoke or the grease starts to boil, turn the burner off. Make sure you are awake and alert. Alcohol and some drugs can make you sleepy.... Wear short sleeves or roll them up so they don’t catch on fire. Make sure children and pets stay at least 3 feet away from a hot stove. Turn pot handles toward the back of the stove so no one can bump them or pull them over. Move things that can burn away from the stove. This includes dishtowels, bags, boxes, paper and curtains. See more

October is always a busy month for us! Fire prevention is a crucial part of our job and we are always happy to get to go out to the schools and get our message out. In addition to school visits, we were able to purchase fire safety manuals for all of the school children from pre-k through 6th grade this years thanks to the gracious donations of everyone listed in the last picture!!

Unfortunately fires and burn injuries have not stopped because of COVID19 and the critical work of GFBF supporting burn survivors continues. While firefighters may not be collecting donations at intersections and storefronts this year, you can still help us through our Virtual Boot Drive and it is easy for your department to participate! Fire departments will receive 10% of the funds they raise to use towards fire safety and burn prevention programs in their communities. Here is the link for our department’s team page. https://fundraise.gfbf.org/team/387642
