The history and mission of Heritage Sandy Springs Museum and Park is a good one to know. HSSMP began because the land the museum and park sit on, where the original springs of Sandy Springs is located, was privately owned and about to be sold to developers. (Think of City Walk being built over the springs that Sandy Springs is named after!) Concerned citizens were not having that happen and formed a group to save the springs, and with volunteer work, help from the community and determination they did it! They saved the springs... and much more. Want to know more? Read here: http://bit.ly/2XvljjH

Last Sunday a special gathering took place at Heritage Hall. The class of 1964 of Sandy Springs High School had their 55th class reunion. That's special enough, BUT this class decided to honor their close-knit group with a gift to Heritage Sandy Springs Museum and Park. A classmate, Barry Henderson, was approached to sculpt the school’s Panther mascot, to be cast in bronze and mounted in a prominent place to honor the school and its history. Barry is a nationally recognized ...sculpture-artist who has Native American sculptures on display at the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville, GA as well as other Galleries. The funding was collected within 72 hours of notification. Let's toast the class of 1964! And, be sure to look for the sculpture next time you are strolling through the park! If you have been to any event at Heritage Sandy Springs in the last 13 years, you must know Carol Thompson. She's vivacious, hard-working, fun, and above all, she's kind and caring about those around her. Today, Carol is retiring from Heritage Sandy Springs. She will be very, very missed! Please join us in wishing her the best in her retirement and also, wish her a happy birthday! During Carol's time at HSSMP she has seen many changes, including the creation of the Sandy Spr...ings Society Lawn, the renovation of the former Suburban Tool Rental Building into Heritage Sandy Springs offices and rental space for Private Events, the renovation of the Heritage Sandy Springs Museum at the Williams Payne House, the creation of The Sandy Springs Gazette, the inheriting and growth of the Heritage Sandy Springs Farmers Market, and the increased attendance and growth of the Concerts by the Springs and the Sandy Springs Festival. Pictured here is Carol with the TAMS at Concert by the Springs.

Last Friday was a special evening at HSSMP. The preview of Grit, Gumption and Grace: The Women of Sandy Springs was a hit! The food was wonderful (and the buffet was almost too beautiful to want to mess it up!). Thanks to Talk of the Town Catering and Special Events for going above and beyond with the food! Smallcakes Marietta - East Cobb, GA also had tasty cupcake treats, and they were hard to get just one. And, Sandy Springs Flowers donated the flowers, which were beautiful.... We could not have these exhibits at the Heritage Sandy Springs Museum without the help of our community, donors and sponsorships. A huge, heartfelt THANK YOU to all involved. We hope the community will come to see this exhibit. The opening is at the Sandy Springs Festival and will be free of charge and open to the public September 28-29, with extended hours Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. More Info: https://heritagesandysprings.org//museum/grit-gumption-an/
