Do you need funding to help burn your forested land? Would you like to win a drip torch? The FY21 West Central Georgia Rx Fire Initiative can help with the fir...st question. To be eligible to win the drip torch you must, like the West Central Georgia Forest Landowners Association Facebook page, PUBLICLY share this post, and comment/tag a landowner or land manager in the area. The West Central Georgia Rx Fire Initiative is focused on increasing the use of prescribed fire on private lands to improve native wildlife habitat and to reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires. A big thank you to the Chattahoochee Fall Line Conservation Partnership for donating the drip torch. The picture has more details about the West Central Georgia Rx Fire Initiative which will provide financial assistance to help private landowners implement rx fire in the area. Approved private landowners will received $15.00 per acre for forested land burned up to 150 acres or $2,250.00 per landowner. Complete your WCG Rx Fire Initiative application online at https://arcg.is/1uem58 The deadline to apply is 11/30/20. The drip torch will be given away after lunch on 10/21/20 by a random drawing. We will request a picture of the winner with the drip torch to be posted here. If you have any questions, please contact RT Lumpkin 478-957-0307 or email [email protected] or visit / call your local GFC county unit or forester.

Quick EQIP deadline! Feb 28th!!! USDA-NRCS IN GEORGIA ANNOUNCES ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY INCENTIVES PROGRAM SIGN-UP... ATHENS, GA, January 30, 2020 State Conservationist Terrance O. Rudolph of the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) announced today the statewide cutoff for fiscal year 2020 Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) funding. All Georgia agricultural producers and landowners who wish to be considered for this year’s technical and financial assistance should apply by February 28, 2020. While customers can apply year round, this application cutoff announcement is for all general EQIP, as well as some special initiatives such as the Longleaf Pine, On-Farm Energy, Organic, Seasonal High Tunnel and the Working Lands for Wildlife. Additionally, this announcement also includes any special Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) EQIP project areas. Customers should discuss these sign up options with your local conservationist to see if any of the initiatives or projects are right for them. NRCS is here to help Georgia’s farmers, ranchers and private landowners make the best use of their land and natural resources. said Rudolph. Programs like EQIP encourage management techniques that help the producer maximize their economic and environmental benefits. NRCS conservationists works with producers to assess the conservation needs on their land to identify concerns and opportunities, help determine objectives, and recommend solutions. EQIP was originally established under the 1996 Farm Bill and reauthorized in the 2018 Farm Bill. Assistance is available to help producers and landowners plan and implement conservation practices to improve water quantity and quality, build healthier soil, improve grazing and forest lands, conserve energy, enhance organic operations, establish or improve wildlife habitat and achieve other environmental benefits on cropland, pasture, forestland, and associated agricultural land including animal feeding operations.
