The Shops Buckhead Atlanta wins Grand Award for Outstanding Urban Arboriculture from the Georgia Tree Council. The award was presented at the Georgia Tree Conference at Stone Mountain on November 7, 2019. Downey Trees nominated Jamestown Properties for the award in recognition of their commitment to the care of over 120 trees on the property.

The Big Oak, Thomasville, Georgia. While massive and old (the acorn sprouted around the 1680's), the circumference of this beautiful Live Oak tree falls short of the state co-champion trees by 9 feet. It’s a joy to know that the painful task of removing a massive or specimen tree in a place like the Atlanta Botanical Garden does not go without return. A beautiful display of Conservation Through Creation displaying the works of the Moulthrop family turning trees removed from the garden into marvelous works of art. Candidly, our favorite the bowl to the far left-Apricot Peggy Clark. Spectacular and as a side note the Garden is in full tulip bloom and worth a visit.

Storms in Destin, FL on Wednesday evening led to some minor clean-up for our Florida team. Here is what happens when storms meet up with a Bradford Pear with bark inclusion. Downey Trees, Inc., Savannah team Evergreen Tree is one of the partners who maintains the tree inventory at UGA’s Skidaway Institute of Oceanography. Located on the old Robert Roebling’s Black Agnus cattle farm there is one special tree highlighted below. This 100 dbh Live oak Quercus virginiana is off the trail but a short walk to find. Supported by steel twisted cables Mr. Roebling wanted to ensure his live oaks survived the storms. Great Grandson of John A. Roebling made famous by designing and overseeing the Brooklyn Bridge construction was familiar with the construction techniques and cabling used by his great grandfather. Very cool tree and a big one indeed.
