A reminder that we do not call our customers seeking payment and we do not use Georgia Power vehicles to make disconnections. Thank you to all our members who were patient while we restored power to 13,000 members yesterday. Tropical Storm Zeta caused more than 20 broken poles, which was daunting but our crews handled the challenge with the appreciated assistance of crews from Tri-County Electric Membership Corporation Central Georgia Electric Membership Corporation and Satilla REMC. In true cooperative spirit, we will be sending crews to Coweta-Fayette EMC and Carroll EMC to help with outages caused by Zeta. We would also like to thank the FFA national delegates who volunteered to prepare meals for our crews at the Georgia FFA-FCCLA Camp in Covington. The meals were delivered to crews at various worksites throughout our territory.

Snapping Shoals EMC’s Board of Directors has announced that Shaun Mock will serve as the co-op’s new President/Chief Executive Officer after current CEO Brad Thomas retires in January 2021. Thomas began his career at Snapping Shoals EMC in September 1987 as an Engineer Assistant while finishing his final semester at Georgia Tech. He graduated from Georgia Tech in December 1987. Mr. Thomas has served as Planning Engineer, Distribution Engineer, System Engineer, Manager of Eng...ineering, Vice President of Engineering and Senior Vice President of Engineering and Operations. He was named President/CEO after Randall Meadows retired in 2010. Thomas says, I know firsthand from working alongside Shaun for nearly 12 years that he is well positioned to assume this leadership role guiding the cooperative for many years to come. Shaun has been an integral part of the SSEMC executive team during my 10-year tenure as CEO and is highly respected by the employees, the Board and his EMC peers. The Board is equally confident in Shaun’s abilities to lead Snapping Shoals EMC and feels privileged to have an existing member of the management team assuming the CEO role. Mock has served as SSEMC’s Chief Financial Officer since 2013. He began his SSEMC career in 2009 as the Vice President of Finance and Administration. Before joining SSEMC, he served as Manager of Accounting at The Satilla REMC in Alma, Ga., and worked with the accounting firm of McNair, McLemore, Middlebrooks in Macon. Mock is a 2011 graduate of the Robert I. Kabat Management Internship Program of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. Following completion of his undergraduate studies at Mercer University in 2003, Mock graduated from the University of Georgia in 2004 with a Master of Accountancy Degree in Taxation. He has been a certified public accountant in the State of Georgia since 2005. Mock is a Georgia native, born and raised in Waycross, Ga. He and his wife, Laura, currently reside in McDonough with their two daughters, Hannah and Madelyn. Along with his commitment to SSEMC, Shaun serves on the boards of the Henry County Chamber of Commerce and Go Energy Financial Credit Union. He and his family are members of Bethany Baptist Church where he has coached Upward Basketball since 2014. Mock concludes, I am honored to be named the next President/CEO of Snapping Shoals EMC. SSEMC has been blessed with exemplary leadership since its inception in 1937 and I am humbled to be even a small part of that proud history.

SSEMC welcomed home our fourth crew to assist Jeff Davis Electric CO-OP this weekend. The crew spent most of their time working on the coastline where homes once stood. The area is still dealing with devastation caused by Hurricane Laura in September, so another crew is already in Louisiana at Jeff Davis Co-op to take this one's place. When a severe weather event is predicted for our region, we call on our sister co-ops in areas unaffected by the approaching storm. Through t...his system of mutual aid, we coordinate with other co-ops to bring additional trucks, equipment and manpower to our area. We work together and share resources in order to restore power to our community. And Snapping Shoals EMC reciprocates by assisting other electric co-ops when they request help. A defining characteristic of a cooperative is cooperation among cooperatives. This is a way that co-ops work together to meet bigger challenges such as power restoration after a severe weather event.
