Coastal Georgia Public Health is temporarily pausing scheduling new COVID-19 vaccine appointments due to the overwhelming response. Based on the number of call...s taken to date, health departments in all 8 counties have enough requests to schedule appointments through February and, in some cases, into March. We understand this may not be welcome news, but with the number of requests we've gotten to date, most of our counties are in the process of booking appointments into March. Please visit gachd.org for additional info. on the vaccination process.
Hello St. Marys, Citizens have asked that we provide background for the recent denial of the Mardi Gras Festival permit request. K-Bay radio, the sponsor, contacted the City regarding the Mardi Gras Festival by filling out the permit application required. The City asked that K-Bay submit a plan to address the COVID-19 requirements outlined in the Governor’s Executive order. The plan that was submitted did not meet the minimum requirements for social distancing, masking, and ...sanitizing with enforcement other than signage. On Tuesday there was a conference call with the Coastal District Department of Public Health Director concerning the status of COVID-19 spread and the roll-out of the vaccine. Cases are currently as high as they were in the summer months when cases peaked at their highest levels. According to Dr. Davis (DPH) the forecast is expected to climb even higher over the next couple of months due to the holiday gatherings, school back in session, and with the kids that were being homeschooled returning to the classrooms. Our daily update from DPH informed us that the Camden Hospital, as the majority of hospitals around the country, is operating at almost maximum capacity. DPH urged leaders to share their deep concerns with the public. We were also briefed that Savannah has canceled the St. Patrick’s Day event and New Orleans has canceled their Mardi Gras. Our primary job is the Safety and Security of our City and her Citizens. And to me, the value of life and the health of our citizens outweigh any benefits from the event. The decision was not made lightly; I know that our businesses need our support and I really do want festivals again for all of us. But for all the reasons stated, St. Marys made the choice to deny the permit. Robby Horton City Manager
We know that people in Phase 1a are trying to schedule appointments, but we are being flooded with calls and the system is being overwhelmed. We are answering and scheduling as quickly as possible and ask for your continued patience.

Traffic Alert! The light on Osborne Road at Julia Street is flashing. Treat this intersection as a four way stop. That means everyone stops and you follow the r...ules of the road. Don't do the wavy thing with your hand because you don't know what to do. Yield to the vehicle on the right. Hopefully it won't be too long to get it repaired.

Happy Friday, everyone! We want to let you know that "Rock the Books" will be taking place tomorrow, Saturday August 15th, around the Howard Gilman Waterfront Park. Due to this event, the parking areas in front of the park will be blocked. Anyone planning to visit downtown, the park, and our boating community please take this into account when making plans for tomorrow!
