NOTICE: After much consideration and discussion, and due to the possibility of rainy skies the rest of the week, we will not be flying the flag, tomorrow, November 11th, for Veteran's Day. This is not a decision that we make lightly. We realize the the flying the American flag speaks for all of Tybee in honoring our Veterans. Our flag measures 30 feet by 60 feet, and if it gets wet it is impossible to lift and will need a day to dry out so it can be stored appropriately. Six days of rain in the forecast would mean the flag would have to hang in the rain and wind for a week. We feel this is not a good way to honor our flag. Our fingers are crossed that the weather will change, and if it does, then the flag will be hung from the lighthouse with pride for Veteran's Day. We appreciate your understanding on this matter.

The Ibises are plentiful at the Tybee Lighthouse today. Although, we must admit, we have never seen them on our roofs drying their wings before.

We'll be taking a look back at Tybee Island Then and Now. We're starting with Battery Brumby and Battery Garland, pictured here in 1936. The 12-inch rifled gun mounted on a non-disappearing carriage still sits upon Battery Garland. Today Battery Brumby houses the Alee Shrine Club, and Battery Garland is home to the Tybee Island Museum. The Tybee Island Historical Society was sadden to learn about the passing of David Cornelius, our neighbor and long time supporter of the Lighthouse. We will be flying our flag at half-staff today and on Wednesday in his memory. Our condolences go out to his friends and family.

Tybee Lighthouse is open for visitors, today, August 3rd. We will stay open as long as we are able. The tower is open for climbing, but the observation deck is closed due to high winds.
