Entering auto is the breaking and entering into a vehicle with the intent to commit a theft or felony. Entering auto is a similar offense to burglary, which is the breaking and entering into a dwelling or structure with the intent to commit a felony therein. Surprisingly the picture you see is not how it generally goes. We have had three entering autos reported this morning along with a stolen car because keys were left in it. We can’t reiterate it enough , LOCK YOUR CAR! Over 90% cars entered or stolen in this community are left unlocked and/ or with keys in them.

In the last decade, car versus deer crashes have caused 192 deaths every year in the US. To avoid being another statistic here are some tips to help avoid hitting a deer. * CHECK FOR SIGNS Towns and highway departments post deer signs for a reason: high deer activity and deer-car collisions.... * USE HIGH BEAMS High beams give a better , larger field of vision * BEWARE OF THE TIME Deer are like humans , they are predictable, forming routines/ schedules. These animals love sunrise and sunset hours to graze * KNOW WHEN TO USE THE HORN Use your horn in short bursts to disperse them * WHEN THERE IS ONE, THERE IS MORE This is almost always the case when you see a deer. If one crosses, slow down with high beams and look for the others following their leader.

According to a study conducted by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) drivers who fail to use their turn signals accounts for over 2 million accidents annually. Comparatively, distracted driving accounts for around 950,000 accidents annually.Be safe turn on your signal!

According to the Stalking Resource Center, over 7.5 million people are stalked each year in the United States. Stalking is often committed by someone the victim knows, and stalking by an intimate partner is the most common and most dangerous type of stalking. Every January is National Stalking Awareness Month (NSAM), a month dedicated to raising the understanding of stalking. This January, we invite our Vidalia community to learn more about stalking, name it when it happens, ...and stop it from occurring. The observance of NSAM is a vital time for us to join efforts to raise awareness and to educate about stalking and how it relates to other forms of violence. As we elevate the issue of stalking throughout the month, let’s also take this opportunity to work towards solutions to prevent stalking and related forms of violence throughout the year and beyond. To lean more about National Stalking Awareness Month or for victim resources, please visit www.stalkingawareness.org. (AS) See more

Do you cook a mean pot of chili, soup, stew, or chowder? If so, gather a team and enter the Vidalia Police Department's 1st Annual Community Cook-off! This is a... one-pot cook-off, meaning each entry should be a recipe that can be prepared in one pot. Teams are open to individual citizens, restaurants, churches, civic groups, and businesses. It is free to enter, and the event itself is free and open to the public. More information can be found on our webpage, https://www.vidaliaga.gov/police/page/taking-it-streets
