From the Atlanta Journal Constitution 12/29/2020 The state of Georgia has launched a new hotline to answer some questions from the public about coronavirus vaccines. Dr. Kathleen Toomey, the state’s top doctor, said the hotline will provide Georgia residents with information about the vaccine rollout, including when people will be eligible to get inoculated, and where they can find a provider when the time comes. DPH does not yet have dates certain for the next phases of va...ccine distribution. The hotline is 1-888-357-0169. The hotline is a companion to the DPH vaccine webpage at www.dph.georgia.gov/covid-vaccine. The webpage also includes articles on safety and effectiveness and a dashboard of data for current vaccine doses administered and the state’s allotment of doses. COVID-19 vaccines started arriving in Georgia about two weeks ago, with the first doses administered to first responders and frontline health workers. This week, the state announced the start of vaccinations through pharmacy giants CVS Health and Walgreens at hundreds of long-term care facilities statewide. The supply of vaccine is currently limited and will not be made available to the general public for months. To date, Pfizer has shipped about 126,000 doses and Moderna has shipped about 170,000 doses, state data as of Monday show. Nancy Nydam, a DPH spokeswoman, said the state is currently in Phase 1A of its vaccine rollout, following federal guidelines. This phase includes frontline health workers and residents and staff of long-term care homes. Nydam said DPH and its partners and health care providers are developing plans for notification to the public when the COVID-19 vaccine is available to them and where they can get vaccinated. DPH expects public notice will include news briefings, via state websites, advertising and outreach through community and faith groups. Toomey, urges Georgians to take the vaccine when they are eligible for their own protection and to protect family and friends. For those who are hesitant about the vaccine, the data looks wonderful, Toomey said. The data from the vaccine looks very, very good and the safety record is very, very good.

Covid-19 Vaccine Arrives in Wayne Physicians, hospital staff receive doses Jesup An early Christmas present arrived this year for healthcare workers at Wayne Memorial - the first installment of Moderna’s Covid-19 Vaccine. Among the first in the group to receive the vaccine was Dr. Bill Headley. He shares he has experienced no real side effects, lest a sore arm for a couple of days. I encourage folks to get the vaccine, so that we can beat this virus quickly. Headley w...ill return 28 days from the shot date for his second dose of the vaccine. He added it was the best early Christmas gift EVER!! Hospital Employee Beth Gorse also received the first of the two-part vaccine. She experienced soreness in her arm the next day, similar to a flu shot. She shared, I have a sense of relief knowing that I’ve started this vaccine process. Fellow employee Janet Keith joins her coworkers in their excitement on receiving the vaccine. All is well. Feeling appreciative! I pray it is available to everyone who wants the vaccine soon. I am more afraid of getting Covid-19 than I am of taking this new vaccine. Hopefully, this will be the beginning of a Covid-free 2021 for all. Roll your sleeves up...and get ready! Keith also shared she has experienced no side effects. Angie Jones, Assistant Chief Nursing Officer for the hospital, said, We are excited to have the vaccine available for our healthcare providers and first responders. The vaccine gives us all hope in a better year coming. We have had no serious reactions or issues reported in anyone who has received the vaccine to date. We usually have 25-30 fabulous members of the local garden clubs inside the facility for a day to decorate for Christmas. But, 2020 had different plans and we look forward to seeing our garden club friends next year. So, a few employees came together to bring a little Christmas inside the hospital. Thank you, Kyle Bailey, for helping us with the tree topper on this very tall tree in the main lobby. Thank you, Madison Greene Klymshyn for decorating the ER Tree, and helping out with the main lobby tree. And a special thank you to Bradley Phillips for placing every tree in its proper spot. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.
