Warning: whole prey feeding photos, squeamish eyes should look away. The Red Wolves and Cheetahs both enjoyed feeding on a whole deer carcass today. Natural feeding opportunities enrich the quality of life for our carnivores by increasing mental and physical activity, providing top nutritional benefits, and encouraging natural behavior. It also gives guests the opportunity to see some of nature’s most skilled predators showing off the behaviors that make them so incredible. W...hole carcass feeding typically consists of deer, rabbit, chicken, rodents, insects, and fish. Other than the deer, which is donated by approved local hunters, we order the feeder animals already frozen from professional diet producers and they have no prior affiliation to the Zoo’s animal collection. It may be disconcerting for some to witness because we typically prefer our beef in the form of hamburgers instead of sinking our teeth straight into a cow’s flank, but any meat we eat was once a whole carcass too! So, when you see Ghost the Red Wolf gnawing on a deer leg, a mouse carcass in Joe the Stork’s feed bowl, or the meerkats chasing crickets- remember that we are all a part of the natural food web! : Zookeeper Tayler #chehaw #careconnectconserve #circleoflife #foodweb #redwolf #cheetah #zoo

Did you know we grow some of our own produce here on the Park? We currently have more oranges than our animals can eat. Grab a one pound bag from our Gift Shop or Ticket Booth today! Each $3 bag contains about one pound of oranges- typically 3-5. We'd also be happy to put together a custom order for larger amounts. Just shoot us a message on Facebook or send an email to [email protected]. #chehaw #careconnectconserve

Take a drive through the Park to see all the beautiful lights! Stop and roast marshmallows or hotdogs by the socially distanced fire pits. No Santa or Train this year, but we do have a NEW hay ride! Bundle up with the family and sip on hot cocoa as a tractor ride winds you through a majority of the lights. Festival of Lights is $8 for members of Chehaw, Flint Riverquarium, and Thronateeska and $10 for nonmembers. Hay Ride is $3/person. See you soon!
