Glennville-Tattnall Museum to relocate to the beautiful Glennwanis Hotel! Many of you have probably visited the Glennville-Tattnall Museum at some point. Unfortunately, in 2016 the museum had to temporarily close and be placed in storage after it was asked to move from the building where it had been since 1994. Now our museum is in danger of being permanently closed and lost to future generations, but you can help us change that. The Friends of the Glennwanis Hotel are work...ing to restore the historic Glennwanis Hotel, which you see pictured here. The hotel was built in 1926 in downtown Glennville and was one of the grandest hotels ever built in rural Georgia. Recently the Friends of the Glennwanis Hotel and the Glennville-Tattnall Museum Board of Directors voted to move the museum into the hotel. The hotel will also serve as a space for events in the beautiful lobby and dining room. We are now working harder than ever to raise the money to restore the hotel, which will save one of Tattnall County’s most historic buildings while also saving our museum. But time is of the essence. Thanks to Peach State Pride, we were able to release these beautiful t-shirts featuring Glennville and the Glennwanis Hotel as our latest fundraiser. If you are from Glennville, like Peach State Pride shirts, or love history, please support this very worthwhile cause by purchasing a shirt. All proceeds will help us preserve this Glennville treasure for future generations. If you would like to join our group please send us a message. Also follow us on Instagram and Facebook @glennwanis. We accept cash, check, PayPal, and Venmo. If you would like to pay with one of these options, please comment or send a private message. Shirts may also be purchased online at the link below. Thank you in advance for your support. https://squareup.com/store/glennwanis

"This Easter Sunday has brought great sadness to Glennville, as today we mourn the loss of one of our own, Professor J. Logan Porter, who served on the Board of Trustees of the Glennville-Tattnall Museum and the Friends of the Glennwanis Hotel. He was a founding member of our board and was instrumental in the museum’s creation in 1994. "Professor Porter was a prolific historian, whose knowledge of American history and government was unparalleled. He served as a professor of... history at Brewton-Parker College and prior to that taught history and government for many years at Pinewood Christian-Academy. At both institutions and beyond, he inspired countless lives and careers. "He was a humble and devoted Christian, an American patriot, an erudite scholar, and a loving friend to all who ever knew him. Please join us in praying for the Porter family as they mourn the loss of a husband, a father, and a truly great man." Remembering Mr. Bobby Kicklighter.

It is with great sadness today that we mourn the loss of one of Glennville’s greatest historians, Mr. Bobby C. Kicklighter. Mr. Kicklighter served on the Board of Trustees of the Glennville-Tattnall Museum and the Friends of the Glennwanis Hotel. He was also a member of the original Glennville Centennial Committee which organized the city’s centennial celebrations in 1994, culminating in the opening of our museum that same year. Until his passing, he played a very active role... in preserving our community’s past. Mr. Kicklighter was a kind and beloved friend to all who knew him. He loved and served his country, his family, his church, and his community. Today has been one of the most tragic and heartbreaking days in Glennville’s history. Please be join the Glennville-Tattnall Museum and the Friends of the Glennwanis Hotel in praying for Mr. Kicklighter’s family and for our entire community as we mourn the loss of this great Glennvillian and American. #glennville #tattnallcounty #tattnallstrong #prayforglennville #glennvillehistory
