FULL HOUSE Online Exhibition of artwork by members of the groups and guilds that call the Arts Center home. Today we're looking at the Classic City Woodturners. Spinning wood is a pleasing distraction during 2020! I am grateful to CCW guild members who share resources to improve members' craft. This piece is carved from black walnut and retained a branch partially surrounded in chatoyance, thus the name: Bran(ch)atoyance." - Jon Calabria #artscenteronline https://www.accgov.com/9695/Full-House

We are thrilled to introduce a new program and are Calling for Guest Artist/Curators identifying as Black, Indigenous and Persons of Color, residing within Athens and ten surrounding counties to develop, design, an art exhibition to be on display for six-to-eight weeks in the Galleries at LHAC. There are three planned cycles for these exhibitions starting in May 2021. A competitive stipend of $1000 is provided to the Guest Artist/Curator for their creative contribution. The goal of this project is to promote the curatorial profession and to provide our community with perspectives and approaches relevant to our times. Professional development is a keystone of LHAC’s programming. Loan agreements, registrar work, curatorial writing and other professional skill building is available. https://www.accgov.com/9799/ArtistCurator

This new Online Collections from our Community features Claire Dunphy's Czechoslovakian wooden bead jewelry. #accartsdivision When I was a child of four or five someone gave me a necklace of large shiny wooden beads. How I loved it and can still visualize it. Many years later as an adult I had a friend in NYC who frequented the flea markets of London and Amsterdam. One time she brought me a handsome broach made of colorful wooden beads. I was enamored and asked her to find m...e some more of this jewelry. The former Czechoslovakia, now Czech Republic and Slovakia, is primarily known for its glass beads but during the Depression period, produced colorful and playful wooden bead jewelry. Some say it was made primarily for children. Well, it certainly spoke to the child in me as well as the adult! I hope you see the smiles in it as I do - Claire Dunphy Claire Dunphy is an artist, performer and storyteller, recently published by Bilbo Books, the first title in this biographical series is Becoming Earthwoman. This native New Yorker is a world traveler splitting her time between Watkinsville, Merida Mexico and Bali Indonesia. https://www.accgov.com//OnLine-Collections-from-our-Commun
