At Old Fort Jackson, we offer more than just a cannon firing! We offer many engaging presentations which explore various aspects of the experiences of the soldiers stationed at the Fort. Here, Coastal Heritage Society Interpretive Supervisor Aaron Bradford beats the Surgeon’s Call. This call would usually be sounded soon after the garrison was awakened by Reveille. Soldiers would assemble to take their quinine, if any was available, along with other medicine to fight deadly disease. Join us at Old Fort Jackson and learn more! Typically, the heart of our formal programs occur between 10 until 11:30 AM and from 1 PM until 2:30 PM.

We are open from 9 AM until 4 PM on Wednesday through Sunday, with cannon firing presentations at 11 AM and 2 PM. We hope you join us at the oldest standing Fort in Georgia!

Three cheers and a tiger for the 200 guests who joined us today! Here, Coastal Heritage Society Site Administrator Justin Childers and Interpretive Supervisor Aaron Bradford portray Savannah soldiers of the Republican Blues stationed at Fort Jackson on this day in 1862. In this drill using Hardee’s Revised Manual, they load in Nine Times, fire as skirmishers in the advance and retreat, fire by rank, and charge with the bayonet. A number of small clashes between Union and Confederate forces occurred on Wilmington and Whitemarsh Island in March of ‘62!
